Food Spills or Pet Urine on Area Rugs
Pet urine is the most severe of these because of residual odor. It can damage Iranian rug color and be difficult to spot clean or disguise. Structurally, urine can make a rug foundation harder and less supple, and it can attract moths. Repeated wettings can loosen the foundation, crack or break a rug when folded or rolled.
Food spills are less of a problem if cleaned immediately and now allowed to dry completely. Blot up liquid with either paper towels or a clean cloth, then attempt to rinse out as much as possible.
